Mission
The Historical Society of Germantown, Montgomery County, Ohio was founded in 1973 with the purpose of collecting, preserving and interpreting historical materials and is dedicated to serving German Township, Germantown, and the regions surrounding and affecting them.

Preservation Philosophy
Germantown is a unique and charming village which should strive to maintain its attractive enviroment by promoting the preservation and restoration of its historical and architecturally significant buildings and landmarks.
Since the village developed in an orderly fashion over the past century and one half, we believe that no one era in the town's history should be given undue emphasis at the expense of other periods. The town presents a rare unity of diverse elements which are the root of it's identity. With this understanding , the Society feels that if changes in the appearance of the town be made, they should reflect the harmony of the diverse styles which is our heritage from earlier generations.
Recognizing that preservation of landmarks in the downtown area is of vital importance to the village at large, the Society wishes to point out that its goals are potentially in harmony with commercial interests downtown. It is hoped that a strong alliance of interests can be forged among all groups so that Germantown can grow in a manner which is respectful of its past and healthy for its future.
